26 Dec 3 Most Common Work Related Injuries
Did you know that one in five American have been hurt on the job? Work related injuries aren’t just confined to manufacturing and construction industries. Every industry has some potential hazard that could cause injury serious enough to cause workers to take off work.
The most common type of work related injuries are musculoskeletal injuries. These injuries involve the muscles, bones, tendons, nerves, and other soft tissues. Normal causes of these injuries include:
overexertion,
fatigue,
prolonged
static postures,
frequent or repetitive stretching,
heavy lifting.
To prevent these types of injures be sure that you’re changing your position frequently. Try setting a timer that reminds you to stretch or walk around every 30 minutes. Also make sure you’re not working in an awkward position and that your workstation is properly positioned and fitted to you. If you’re suffering from musculoskeletal injuries, chiropractic care can correct any spinal misalignment and massage therapy relaxes the muscles to relieve musculoskeletal pain.
The second most common type of work related injury involves falling, slipping, or tripping. Falls count for 31% of all work related injuries and are probably the most avoidable. Falls are mostly caused by things like wet floors, loose carpet, and inadequate lighting. Preventing falls is simply a matter of taking caution and staying attentive to wet floors and uneven walkways. If you’ve suffered a fall, rehabilitation exercises can help you heal and get back to your daily activities sooner.
The third most common type of work related injury are repetitive motion injuries. These are injuries like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in which repeating the same motion over and over again causes damage to the muscles, ligaments, nerves, and tendons. You can prevent these injuries by taking frequent breaks and reducing the frequency of repetitive activities. Ice and rest can bring short term relief to these injuries, and physical therapy can promote long term healing of the joints, muscles,and tendons.
