15 Oct Introducing CrossFit White Horse
What is CrossFit? We get the question almost every day.
CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program that is sometimes difficult to define because we incorporate all areas of fitness from cardiovascular endurance to strength training to gymnastics. Our goal is to increase overall fitness and help each person that walks through our doors become the best athlete. Yes, everyone that comes to CrossFit White Horse is considered an athlete no matter their age or background. From the article CrossFit Theory, written by Greg Glassman, he explains in depth what we do and I have provided the web link for that article below.
All of our workouts are based on functional movements. These are the core movements of life, found everywhere, and built naturally into our DNA. We run, we jump, we move in all planes, and we lift objects. By constantly varying these functional movements and performing them at a high intensity we have noticed huge gains in overall fitness. In its simplest terms, CrossFit is the sport of fitness. It can challenge the fittest athletes in the world, but is designed for universal scalability, making it the perfect application for any committed individual, regardless of experience.
We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs. The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree, not kind (Glassman). To become the best athlete you can be and to increase overall fitness we have broken fitness down into the “10 attributes of fitness” and we train all 10: Cardiovascular endurance, strength, agility, flexibility, power, speed, stamina, accuracy, balance, and coordination.
