13 Feb Secret to a successful diet
I recently read about a study that surveyed individuals on varying diets to see which ones actually helped people lose weight. Respondents were on a variety on diets such as: the block diet, the grapefruit diet, the point diet, the soup diet, etc. After being on their respective diets for at least 6 months every individual had lost weight.
The study pointed out that all diets will help you lose weight as long as you have one secret ingredient: motivation. I agree with the study that motivation is a key to success, but not all diets are healthy. The best and healthiest way to diet is to eat a variety of wholesome foods and foods that are closest to their natural state. For example, instead of apple juice with added sugar eat an apple; instead of instant potatoes eat baked or sweet potatoes. When following a diet that is restrictive and says you can only eat this one food, this is not healthy for the long term and you are actually missing out on essential nutrients that your body needs.
A healthy well balanced diet includes fats, proteins, and carbohydrates with a percentage breakdown of 40% carbs, 30% protein, 30% fat. So, you do have to be motivated to start losing weight, but to stay motivated and keep the weight off requires eating a variety of healthy wholesome foods that you like to eat. Remember a cheat meal every now and then is a good way to stay motivated, as well. Just try to eat clean about 80-85% of the time.
