    Diet and exercise fads come and go. It seems like each week there is some new and exotic diet or exciting new piece of exercise equipment. One week you hear you should not eat carbohydrates then next week it’s eat only carbohydrates and no fat. Some diets and exercise products just sound silly and can be easily tossed out, but others have scientific data to back up their claims.

    It can sometimes be very confusing, so what should someone do and what can actually be believed. I personally am against diets because most restrict certain foods or say you can only eat one particular food. I think the best way to lose weight and keep it off is to make lifestyle changes to your diet and exercise regime such as: eating natural whole foods, keeping track of what you eat, regular exercise, and burning more calories than you take in.

    If you are on a diet that says no chocolate cake, then chocolate cake is all you are going to be thinking about. When you are eating balanced meals that are appropriately proportioned throughout the week it is ok to have that cake or whatever your indulgence is every now and again.

    Try to stick to 80% healthy food and 20% whatever you want. Giving in to those treats occasionally helps to keep you focused on your weight loss goals without depriving yourself. When trying to decide on an exercise regime pick some form of activity that you like such as: biking, running, lifting weights, walking, kayaking, swimming, yoga, or any other activity that sparks your interest and elevates your heart rate.
