    Putting Gas In The Tank

    Putting Gas In The Tank

Eat Clean: Apples not apple juiceWe will be beginning our next 6 week fitness class soon. This time we will be adding a nutritional challenge to go along with the class to help facilitate more weight loss in a healthy nutritious way.

A healthy diet and an exercise routine go hand and hand. If either is lacking then reaching your weight loss and athletic goals will be hindered. After a hard workout or long run I often hear “now I can eat anything I want.” I have to confess I am guilty of saying that too, but you can work out until you are blue in the face and ruin that entire workout by what you put into your mouth.
We need to think of eating like this, eating to exercise not exercising to eat. What I mean by that is, we should eat enough food to fuel our body to perform the activities will be doing. Not exercise then gorge on anything and everything we can find.

I tell the young athletes I work with, your body is like a supped up high performance race car. You do not fill the gas tank of a Lamborghini up with the cheap E85 ethanol gas, it requires the good stuff and so does your body.

I have looked into all the different diets there are and somebody somewhere is going to have some scientific evidence to contradict that particular diet, therefore, I have designed my own “clean eating” plan to go along with our fitness challenge. The plan includes simple changes in the foods we eat and is designed to be a long term eating plan not some 19 day challenge that will cause rapid weight loss but then once it is finished the weight is quickly regained.

In the plan I give my personal definition of “clean eating”: eating a variety of wholesome healthy foods that are closest to their natural state. Eating a variety of wholesome foods provides your body with a wide range of nutrients and vitamins, eating the same foods all the time even if the foods are “health foods” will hinder you from reaching your weight loss goals.

A couple of examples of foods closest to their natural state would be: eating an apple instead of apple juice and eating a baked potato instead of potato chips.

We are excited about the upcoming Fitness Resolution class and would love for you to join us! The next 6 week class will begin on Monday March 4th for the community and for Mantachie faculty the class will begin February 26th.
